Origin-Destination Geography:

Domestic Origin (dms_orig)
The domestic origin is the FAF region or state where a freight movement begins the domestic portion of shipment.


US Exit Region (dms_dest)
The US exit region is the US exit region where an export leaves United States.


Foreign Destination (fr_dest)
The foreign destination is the foreign region where a freight movement ends. The specific countries included in each region can be found at the United Nations site.

Commodity:

Commodity (sctg2)
The commodities are classified at the 2-digit level of the Standard Classification of Transported Goods (SCTG).

Mode & Distance:

Domestic Mode (dms_mode)
The domestic modes for exports are the modes used between domestic origin and US exit region.


Foreign Out-Mode (fr_outmode)
The foreign out-mode is the mode used between the US exit region and foreign region for the exported goods.


Distance Band (dist_band)
The distance band is the range of estimated routed distance for the domestic portion of shipment. Note that the distance band is not available for historical years (1997-2012).
